John Lewis’s improvements to its Oxford Street store continue, with the latest project we have been tasked to deliver completing in September.
Across the second and third floors, a new ‘home’ concept has been completed in the centre of the store, spanning both storeys and creating a central architectural feature and a new point of focus for customers.
For us, though, it was all about programme. To keep as much of the store open and trading as possible, we developed a plan that involved 8-9 phases per floor, hoarding off each area, working 24/7 to get the job done and handing it back. Everything had to run to schedule – one trade slipping by just one day would throw the timing out – and with merchandise and visual display teams booked by John Lewis there could be no question of flexibility. The plan we developed worked though and the 32-week, £10 million project was delivered to time, budget and our usual high standards.
